‘There is no climate emergency’: 1,100 scientists and professionals sign World Climate Declaration19/8/2022 There is “no climate emergency” according to over 1,100 scientists and professionals from across the world, led by the Norwegian physics Nobel Prize laureate Professor Ivar Giaever, who have signed the recently published World Climate Declaration. The article by the World Climate Declaration (WCD) claiming that “there is no climate emergency” began gaining traction on social media on Thursday 18 August after it was reportedly “scrubbed from the internet” and retrieved by the Wayback Machine as per a report in Euro Weekly News yesterday. Signatories come from 40 nations including France, Australia, the United States, the UK, the Netherlands, Italy and Ireland. 18 people who are either scientists or professionals in Ireland signed the declaration. Irish signatories included Jim O’Brien, Founder of the Irish Climate Science Forum, former Science Advisor for the Department of Energy and Climate, Mr Mark Gerard Keenan, and Mr Edward Walsh, former Chairman of the Irish Council for Science, Technology and Innovation. “Climate science should be less political, while climate policies should be more scientific,” the declaration, signed in June, states.
