John Homeston, a retired CIA agent, has admitted this week on National Russian Television (NTV) that the CIA was behind the creation of the 1980s hip hop scene and financed major hip hop acts including NWA, Afrika Bambaataa, and Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five.

The government at the time spent “big money, serious money” on this covert operation destined to “further division” and “corrupt the American youth to nihilist, anti-establishment and anti-American ideologies”, he explained in a half hour interview broadcast on national television.

Famous hip hop songs of the legendary hip hop outfit NWA were even scripted by a team of psychologists and war propagandists of the CIA. “F#ck the police,” and “When I’m called off, I got a sawed off / Squeeze the trigger, and bodies are hauled off,” and other nihilist and anti-establishment lyrics were intended to unleash a wave of cynicism towards authorities, promote the use of heavy drugs, and entice the youth with revolutionary, counter-establishment ideas.

The retired CIA agent claims the social engineering maneuver was “extremely successful.”

“We understood at the time that music was a powerful means of propaganda to reach the youth,” explained the 77-year-old man.

“Our mission was to use teenage angst to our advantage and turn Generation X into a decadent, pro-drug and anti-establishment culture that would create uprisings and further division within society. We even infiltrated mainstream radio to promote their music and reach millions of people everyday,” he admitted, visibly proud of the accomplishment.

“For many of us in the CIA, infiltrating the 1980s hip hop scene was one of the CIA’s most successful experiments of propaganda to date,” he acknowledged during the interview.

“You could say Frankenstein’s monster got up off the table and started goose-stepping.”

The retired CIA agent, who has granted a Russian residence permit in 2011, also claimed Lyor Cohen, commonly known as “the Tall Israeli who runs hip hop,” is a CIA asset.

“When it comes to engineering culture, no-one touches Lyor Cohen,” Homeston admitted.

Hip hop artists signed and promoted by Cohen include Slick Rick, DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince (the latter better known today as Will Smith), Eric B. & Rakim, EPMD, Stetsasonic, De La Soul, and A Tribe Called Quest. He ended up promoting rappers such as Jay-Z And Kanye West, and more recently brought Migos and Young Thug to prominence.

The news that hip hop was created and promoted by the CIA for social engineering purposes comes after it was revealed that American modern artists, including Jackson Pollock, Robert Motherwell, Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko, were also secretly funded and promoted by the CIA.

One of the greatest challenges on this journey is learning not to live in what I call ‘the waiting room’ even if you are ‘waiting’.

Many of us can see the world we are living through for what it is; we see the corruption, the deception, the cruelty, the inversion of everything that is good. At the same time, we can also imagine something better. We pray for it, we work towards it, we hold onto the hope that one day truth will replace lies, peace will replace conflict, and humanity will once again be guided by goodness rather than evil.

But there is a danger hidden within that hope…

If we are not careful, we begin postponing our lives until that day arrives. We tell ourselves that we will truly live when the storm has passed, when freedom has returned, when justice has been served, when the world finally makes sense again. Yet today is also our life…

These ordinary days, however difficult they may feel, are days we will never get back. The sunrise we barely noticed because we were reading the latest headlines. The conversation we rushed through because our minds were somewhere else. The people we love, who are here today but are not promised tomorrow.

There is a balance we have to learn; we must never stop dreaming of a better future. Never stop hoping. Never stop praying. Never stop doing whatever we can to help bring that future closer, but neither must we forget to fully inhabit this moment.

To laugh, to love, to dance, to sing, to sit in the sun, to marvel at God’s creation. To appreciate the quiet blessings that still surround us, even in the middle of the chaos.

Perhaps that is one of the greatest acts of resistance. Not allowing darkness to steal not only our future, but our present as well.

We fight for tomorrow, but we must remember to live today, because these are the days of our lives, and once they pass through our hands, they are gone forever.

A good friend called yesterday morning to tell me he is stepping back from online provocations—social media, chat groups, and the endless stream of outrage—because he no longer wants his life force drained by the relentless exposure to corruption, criminality, and conflict. This is no ordinary man. He served multiple tours in Afghanistan, manning the rear of a Chinook helicopter, and witnessed horrors he rarely speaks about.

Yet psychological and information warfare as a nominal civilian poses its own kind of danger. The threats may be different, but the nervous system does not neatly distinguish between bullets, explosions, and a continual diet of perceived existential threat. Living for years in a heightened state of vigilance extracts a price, regardless of the battlefield.

The losses and wounds are real, if often invisible (such as fracturing the mind via propaganda) or misclassified (poisoning of the body seen as emergent illness).

On Friday I attended two events, one private and one public, featuring speakers who had each, in their own way, awakened to the totalitarian agenda advanced under the banner of Covid. They recognised that something had gone profoundly wrong, experienced its consequences personally, and chose to act rather than look away.

What follows is my field report from near the front lines of that struggle. It is not merely about exposing evil, but about something harder and ultimately more important: reconstructing humanity’s future along more truthful, benevolent, and life-affirming lines.
